Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West (18-20, 8-11) baseball team couldn't stop a late rally from Fullerton College (17-21, 5-14) as they lost 5-1.
The Rustlers would take an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as Zakk Morgan and Jake Hinzo led off with a pair of singles. Jeff Zordani followed with a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt moving the base runners to second and third base. Morgan would score two batters later when Jeremiah Vison would smack a single through the middle of the infield.
Starting pitcher Taylor Franzman kept the Hornets batters off balance until the seventh inning when he surrendered three runs on two hits. The Fullerton took advantage of an error in the top of the eighth as they plated two more runs to extend their lead 5-1.
The Rustlers would go down quietly in the eighth and ninth innings to drop the first game of the three game series 5-1.
