CYPRESS, CA- The Golden West College men's soccer team (3-2-1, 0-1) lost 3-1 on the road at Cypress College (4-2, 1-0) in their Orange Empire Conference opener on Tuesday. It was the Chargers' first victory over Golden West since 2009.
Golden West won the possession battle throughout the game. However, the Rustlers were unable to capitalize on quality looks at goal. Golden West outshot Cypress 15-9, but the Chargers were able to match the Rustlers with 4 shots on goal. Cypress got on the scoreboard first in the 16th minute but the Rustlers were able to answer just before the first half ended with a goal from Alex Maldonado-Pinon.
Unfortunately that was the end of the scoring for the Rustlers as the Chargers were able to find the back of the net two more times to take the victory 3-1.
Next: Golden West will travel to Fullerton College Friday, September 15th for a 3pm start.
