Golden West Men’s Soccer Opens 2025 Season on the Road at Cuyamaca
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – The Golden West College men's soccer team begins its 2025 campaign this afternoon with a 4 p.m. kickoff at Cuyamaca College. The Rustlers return a strong core from last season and look to build on their 2024 campaign, where they finished with a 5-10-5 overall record and a 5-5-4 mark in Orange Empire Conference play.
Golden West will lean on its returning all-conference standouts to set the tone early. Forward Jorge Orozco was one of the most dangerous attackers in the OEC last season, earning First Team All-Conference honors after scoring a team-best eight goals with two assists across 19 matches. Orozco's finishing ability and knack for finding space in the box will again make him the focal point of the Rustlers' attack.
In the midfield, Arnold Ramirez returns as a steady two-way presence after also being named First Team All-Conference in 2024. Ramirez started 13 games, contributed a goal and two assists, and was a key distributor in the center of the pitch. His leadership and ability to control tempo will be critical for Golden West's possession game.
Defensively, Yasir Duque provides versatility and toughness after earning Second Team All-Conference honors last season. Duque started 13 matches, adding two goals, while also showing his flexibility by playing both as a forward and an outside back. His energy and work rate make him a key piece on both ends of the field.
The Rustlers also return goalkeeper Trevor Jones, who was a reliable presence in net last fall. Jones appeared in 16 matches with 12 starts, posting a 1.52 goals-against average and 68 saves, including one shutout. His experience between the posts will help anchor a back line that welcomes several new faces.
The Rustlers open with two road matches before their home opener on Friday, September 5, against Cerritos College at 4 p.m. at the Golden West Soccer Complex.
