Men’s Swimming Beats Cypress, Falls To Riverside
The Golden West men’s swimming team completed against both Cypress College and host Riverside City College in a double dual meet on Friday, February 10.
Riverside, Calif. – The Golden West men's swimming team completed against both Cypress College and host Riverside City College in a double dual meet on Friday, February 10. The Rustlers defeated Cypress (141-73) but were edged by Riverside (115-101).
Golden West kicked off the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. This group of freshman Garrett Pickford, sophomore Eddie Malick, sophomore Adam Otaki, and freshman Logan Goodman finish with a time of 3:40.92.
The Rustlers went on to win 8 of the 11 events on the day verse Riverside and went undefeated against Cypress College winning 11 of 11 events.
Golden West had several two-event winners: freshman David Jorth won both the 1000 free (10:25.00) and the 500 free (5:01.56), Eddie Malick 200 IM (2:00.82) and 200 breaststroke (2:14.51).
Adam Otaki finished first in the 200 fly (2:02.59) out touching Riverside by just .02 of a second.
Other notable swims: Garrett Pickford won the 200 back (2:03.95) reaching the wall 7 seconds before the next swimmer. The Rustlers went 4-6 in the 50 free with Logan Goodman (23.48), Ricardo Guimaraes (23.53), and Aaron Rafferty (23.68).
Golden West will be back in action Friday, February 25 as they host the Golden West Sprint Invitational slated to start at 9:00am and 12:30pm.
