Women's Swim Finishes 5th in Sprint Invite
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - The Golden West College women's swim team put together an impressive performance at the 2026 GWC Swim Sprint Meet on Friday, February 20, highlighted by a dominant showing from Sienna Abernathy, who finished as the top point scorer of the meet for the Rustlers.
Abernathy led Golden West with an outstanding 54 total points, winning the 100-yard Individual Medley in a time of 1:08.11 to capture first place and 20 points. She followed that with a pair of runner-up finishes, placing second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:37.35) and second in the 50-yard backstroke (31.96), earning 17 points in each event. Her versatility across distance, sprint, and IM events set the tone for Golden West throughout the meet.
The Rustlers also received strong contributions across the lineup. Hanna Menyhart continued her success in the sprint events with a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly (31.84) and a fifth-place showing in the 50-yard backstroke (33.56), while adding depth in the backstroke and freestyle events.
Zoe Esquivel showcased her all-around ability with a ninth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.66) and a competitive 28.47 in the 50-yard freestyle, while also contributing to multiple relays. Monet Panter represented Golden West in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking a 7:09.52, and added valuable swims in the IM and sprint events. Catherine Le added points in the breaststroke and IM races, including an 11th-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:24.81).
Golden West rounded out the meet with consistent relay performances, closing the day with solid efforts in the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays, highlighting the team's depth and balance across all four strokes.
Overall, the Golden West Sprint Meet provided the Rustlers with a productive home competition where they finished 5th out of 14 other programs.
