Rustlers Compete at Mt. SAC Invitational
Golden West ran in the 65th annual Mt. SAC cross country invitational Friday. The Rustlers held their own as they raced with the state's top teams in the 3 mile women's event and the 4-mile men's race.
Walnut, Calif. - Golden West ran in the 65th annual Mt. SAC cross country invitational Friday. The Rustlers held their own as they raced with the state's top teams in the 3 mile women's event and the 4-mile men's race.
On the women's side, The Rustlers ran with 23 other teams and finished eleventh overall with 304 points. Cerritos won the women's event with a total of 52 points and host Mt. SAC took second with 101 points. Arianna Condon (Newport Beach, CA/Corona Del Mar HS) was the first Rustler to cross the finish line with a time of 19:51. Condon placed 34th with average mile time of 6:37, 31 seconds off the first place finisher. Close behind were other Rustler point-earners including Cynthia Torres (20:7) and Katherine Pavloff (20:52)
The men finished with 478 points, competing with a total of 20 teams and 207 runners. Freshman, Yale Jimenez (Garden Grove, CA/Garden Grove HS) finished in the middle of the pack with a finishing time of 23:12, and a 5:48 average mile. Rustlers, Chase Calkins (23:37), Brandon Ngo (24:01) and Mitchell Jimenez (24:50) each performed well in their event.
Congratulations to Brandon Ngo, a sophomore on the GWC Men's Cross Country Team. He was awarded the honor of being selected to the 2012 California Community College All-State Academic Team for Cross Country. In order to qualify, you had to have 24 or more units completed with a 3.5 gpa. He will be presented his award at the State Championships in Fresno on November 12, 2013.
