#19 Rustlers Down the #4 Pirates in Game Two of Series
Huntington Beach, CA – In a highly anticipated Orange Empire Conference (OEC) series matchup, the #19 Golden West College Rustlers (17-5, 3-2) took down the #4 Orange Coast College Pirates (17-3, 7-1) with a convincing 6-1 victory at home in game two of the three game series this week. The Rustlers capitalized on Orange Coast's defensive miscues and received a dominant pitching performance from Desyree Arizmendi, who went the distance for the complete-game win.
Golden West wasted no time putting runs on the board, striking in the first inning as Reggi Frei delivered an RBI single to center field, scoring Abbie Rainwater. Frei later came around to score on an error, giving the Rustlers an early 2-0 lead.
The Rustlers tacked on another run in the second when Rainwater executed a perfect sacrifice bunt, bringing home Candice DeMayo to make it 3-0. Golden West added another in the third, as DeMayo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in Desyree Arizmendi and extending the lead to 4-0.
Orange Coast got on the board in the fourth inning with a solo home run from Jasmyn Morales, cutting the deficit to 4-1. However, that would be the only offense the Pirates could muster against Arizmendi, who scattered four hits over seven strong innings, striking out four and walking none.
Golden West responded in the fifth inning, taking advantage of more defensive struggles from Orange Coast. Mya Santiago drew a bases-loaded walk, plating Allyssa DeMayo, and Rainwater reached on an error by the catcher, allowing Sara Aguilar to score and push the Rustler lead to 6-1. The victory served as the Pirates first OEC loss and inched the Rustlers closer to second place behind Cypress College.
The series will conclude on Friday at Orange Coast at 2pm.
