Pereyda Named Track Athlete of the Year While Taking First in the 800m and 1500m

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Golden West College women's track and field team delivered a dominant performance at the Orange Empire Conference Championships, held Friday, April 24 at Riverside City College. The Rustlers were led by an outstanding showing from sophomore standout Lowyn Pereyda, who claimed two conference titles and earned Orange Empire Conference Track Athlete of the Year honors.

Pereyda successfully defended her conference championship in the 800 meters, taking 1st place with a time of 2:25.36. She continued her exceptional meet by capturing another conference title in the 1500 meters, crossing the line in 5:00.49.

Demonstrating her versatility and endurance, Pereyda also placed 3rd in the 5,000 meters with a time of 20:06.80 and added another 3rd place finish in the 10,000 meters, clocking 42:38.79. Her four scoring performances played a major role in the Rustlers' success and cemented her status as one of the conference's elite distance runners.

In the sprints, Sarah Hegamin turned in a strong performance in the 400 meters, placing 6th overall with a time of 1:02.30, earning valuable points for Golden West.

Pereyda and Hegamin both qualified for SoCal Regionals next weekend at Bakersfield College.
