Golden West College Track & Field Competes at SoCal Regional Prelims
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Golden West College men's and women's track and field programs competed at the SoCal Regional Prelims on Saturday, May 2, hosted by Bakersfield College. The Rustlers turned in several strong performances, highlighted by a qualifying effort and multiple personal bests against top regional competition.
Sophomore standout Lowyn Pereyda led the way for the women's team, advancing to the next round in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:58.08, earning an automatic qualifying mark. The performance also marked a new personal best and placed her among the top times in the state this season.
Pereyda also competed in the 800 meters, clocking 2:27.32 to finish 10th overall in a competitive field.
In the sprints, freshman Sarah Hegamin represented the Rustlers in the 400 meters, posting a time of 1:05.25 in the preliminary round.
On the men's side, sophomore Alejandro Lewis delivered a strong effort in the 10,000 meters, finishing with a personal-best time of 35:34.56, continuing his steady improvement in the distance events this season.
Next up is the SoCal Regional finals at Bakersfield College on Saturday May 9th.
