Rustlers Outlast Mt. San Jacinto for 31-13 Opening-Day Win
Menifee, CA – Golden West College quarterback Noa Banua tossed three touchdown passes, included a pair in the second half, to help lead the Rustlers to an impressive 31-13 victory at Mt. San Jacinto College on Saturday in both teams' 2025 season opener.
The contest was close in the first half with the squads going into the locker room with the Rustlers holding a narrow 17-13 lead after Mateo Zavilla nailed a 43-yard field goal late in the second quarter.
But Golden West took over in the second half.
The Rustlers' defense turned away the Eagles and held them scoreless the remainder of the contest while the GWC offense responded with a pair of long scoring drives that helped them grind down the game clock.
Banua tossed a 29-yard touchdown pass to JD Alicea in the third quarter that closed out a nine-play, 73-yard drive. And in the fourth, Banua iced the victory with a 10-play, 84-yard drive that took nearly seven minutes off the clock.
He hit Tanner Schimdt for a 52-yard TD at the 8:20 mark and the defense locked in for the win.
Golden West totaled 349 yards of offense while limiting MSJC to 184 yards. Banua completed 15 of 25 passes for 226 yards and 3 TDs. Schimdt led receivers with 5 catches for 93 yards and a touchdown. David Daniels also hauled in a 23-yard TD in the second quarter.
The Rustlers secondary came away with three interceptions, including a 63-yard, pick 6 by Taeden Rodgers. Kruz Wheeler and Nigel Mills also had interceptions. Brandon Soleau led the defense with 9 total tackles.
