No. 5 Golden West Cruises to 55-0 Shutout of Allan Hancock
HUNTINGTON BEACH – The No. 5 state-ranked Golden West College Rustlers continue to cement their status as one of the top teams in the state. On Saturday, Golden West improved to 3-0 with an impressive 55-0 rout of visiting Allan Hancock College at Rustler Stadium.
The Rustlers dominated both sides of the ball as they totaled 458 yards of offense while limiting Allan Hancock to 159 yards. Of those 458 yards, Golden West rushed for a season-high 343 yards and ran in for five touchdowns.
Golden West established the run early. Aaron Mitchell returned the game's opening kickoff 26 yards to the Rustlers' 43-yard line. Moments later, Mitchell took the handoff on Golden West's first offensive play and broke free for a big 57-yard touchdown.
GWC jumped out to a 21-0, first-quarter lead after touchdown runs from Ardwon Morris (2 yards) and quarterback Noa Banua.
The Rustlers extended their advantage to 28-0 thanks to a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown by Tanner Schmidt early in the second quarter. A one-yard TD run by Kalen Montgomery and a 14-yard touchdown reception by Ayden Goodwin from Banua sent the Rustlers into the locker room with a commanding 41-0 halftime lead.
Kendric Thomas opened the third quarter with a 73-yard touchdown run and Braden Powers got the GWC defense involved with the scoring by returning an interception 18 yards for the Rustlers' final TD.
Thomas led Golden West on the ground with 141 yards on six carries while Mitchell ran 5 times for 65 yards.
Banua attempted just 10 passes, completing five of them for 115 yards and a TD. He also ran four times for 14 yards and a touchdown.
Jerome Lilio led the GWC defense with 5 tackles. Kaleb McCutheon and Kolt McCreadie both had 4 tackles and a sack each.
The win wrapped up the Rustlers' non-league schedule. Golden West will open National Central League play next Saturday (Sep. 20) when the Rustlers travel to Bakersfield College for a 4 p.m. game.
