Rustlers Sweep Grossmont at Home, Remain Rolling in 2026 Season
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - The Golden West College Rustlers men's volleyball continued their strong 2026 campaign on Tuesday night, earning a straight-sets victory over the Grossmont College Griffins men's volleyball, 25-22, 25-16, 26-24, at the GWC Gym.
Golden West controlled much of the match behind a balanced offensive attack and steady defensive play, hitting .267 as a team while holding Grossmont to a .105 hitting percentage. The Rustlers totaled 38 kills on the night and limited the Griffins to just 23 kills across three sets.
The opening set was tightly contested, but Golden West used timely side-outs and strong serving to close out a 25-22 win. The Rustlers gained separation in set two, pulling away early and cruising to a 25-16 victory behind efficient attacking and consistent ball control.
Set three proved to be the most dramatic, featuring multiple lead changes and extended rallies. Grossmont fought off several match points, but Golden West stayed composed down the stretch, closing the match with a clutch kill to seal the 26-24 win and complete the sweep.
Aidan Dubno led all players with eight kills on .500 hitting, adding a service ace and two block assists to finish with a team-high 10.0 points. Gino Viggiano delivered an efficient performance, posting five kills on .571 hitting and six digs, while Isaiah Espinoza contributed seven kills for the Rustlers.
Golden West's offense was directed by John Braunstein, who recorded 18 assists and two service aces. At the service line, the Rustlers applied pressure throughout the match, finishing with eight service aces. Defensively, Keegan Martyn anchored the back row with six digs, while the Rustlers totaled seven team blocks.
With the home sweep, Golden West continues to build momentum as the next match is on Friday, February 27th at Palomar with a 5pm start.
