Rustlers Sweep Mesa to Extend Winning Streak to 20
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - The Golden West College Rustlers men's volleyball continued its dominant 2026 season Tuesday night, defeating the San Diego Mesa College Olympians men's volleyball in straight sets, 28-26, 25-14, 25-19, at the GWC Gym.
With the win, Golden West improved to 13-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, extending its unbeaten start while showcasing a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive play.
The opening set proved to be the most competitive of the night, as both teams battled through several ties and lead changes. The Rustlers stayed composed in the late stages, eventually pulling out a 28-26 victory to take early control of the match.
Golden West dominated the second set behind an explosive offensive performance, hitting an impressive .640 as a team while committing just one error. The Rustlers used a strong serving run and efficient attacking to cruise to a 25-14 win.
In the third set, Golden West maintained control while San Diego Mesa attempted to close the gap late. The Rustlers held off the Olympians' push and sealed the sweep with a 25-19 victory.
Aidan Dubno delivered a standout performance for Golden West, recording 11 kills on a remarkable .917 hitting percentage, committing no errors on 12 attempts. Dubno also added four digs and three block assists to lead the Rustlers with 12.5 points.
Colin Harper contributed eight kills on .333 hitting, while Gino Viggiano added seven kills, two service aces, and two block assists. Jack McGrew and Frankie Gates each finished with five kills to provide additional offensive balance.
The Rustlers' offense was guided by Bryce Nehova and John Braunstein, who combined for 31 assists, helping Golden West finish the match hitting .350 as a team with 43 kills.
Defensively, Braunstein led the Rustlers with eight digs, while Golden West totaled 13 block assists as a team to help limit San Diego Mesa to 20 kills on the night.
