Johnston and Matthews Set for 3C2A Beach Volleyball Pairs Championship Appearance
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Golden West College's standout beach volleyball pair Hayden Johnston and Maren Matthews will represent the Rustlers on the state's biggest stage this weekend, competing in the 2025 3C2A Beach Volleyball Pairs State Championships at Long Beach City College on May 9–10.
The duo, fresh off a 6th-place finish at the Southern California Regional Championships, earned the #6 seed out of the South and will compete in Pool 6 during Friday's pool-play round, looking to secure a great pool finish for Saturday's 16-team championship bracket.
Johnston and Matthews begin pool play on Friday, May 9 with a three-match slate:

4:00 PM – vs. Cuttone/Nicolet (Fresno City College)

6:00 PM – vs. Deter/Platt (Sierra College)
The pair enters the tournament with confidence and momentum after strong wins at both the Orange Empire Conference and SoCal regionals.
A good Friday afternoon will set Johnston and Matthews up for Saturday's single-elimination round of 16, with a state championship on the line.
