Rustlers Remain Perfect in OEC Play with Sweeps Over Irvine Valley and Cypress
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — The Golden West College beach volleyball team delivered a commanding performance on its home courts, sweeping both conference opponents in an Orange Empire Conference doubleheader. The Rustlers defeated Irvine Valley College 5-0 before closing the day with another 5-0 sweep over Cypress College.
Golden West controlled the action from start to finish against Irvine Valley, not dropping a single set across all five pairs. The No. 1 pair of Maren Matthews and Meghan Freck set the tone with a decisive 21-16, 21-9 victory. At No. 2, Jenna Zaffino and Mackenzie Dorney followed with a strong 21-13, 21-10 win.
The momentum continued at the No. 3 position as Jalissa Costa and Pearl Miller secured a 21-19, 21-11 triumph. Cassandra Zoellers and Sorelle Buley added another straight-set victory at No. 4, winning 21-12, 21-8, while Emalee Alton and Annalee Smith capped the sweep with a dominant 21-6, 21-6 result in the No. 5 match.
In the second dual of the day, Golden West carried that same intensity into its matchup with Cypress College. Once again, the Rustlers swept all five pairs matches to secure the 5-0 victory.
Matthews and Freck led the way with a convincing 21-7, 21-9 win at No. 1. Zaffino and Dorney followed with a 21-5, 21-9 victory in the No. 2 slot. Costa and Miller continued their strong play with a 21-11, 21-10 win at No. 3.
At No. 4, Zoellers and Buley battled through a tighter contest but prevailed in straight sets, 21-18, 21-8. Alton and Smith once again closed out the lineup with a 21-15, 21-17 win to complete the second sweep of the day.
With the pair of dominant wins, Golden West remains unbeaten in OEC action with three more conference matchups to go.
