Woodland Hills, Calif. — The Golden West College women's soccer team started the 2025 season in dominant fashion Tuesday evening, earning a 3-0 shutout victory on the road against LA Pierce at Shepard Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the Rustlers broke through with a three-goal second half, powered by a balanced attack and a strong defensive effort.
Freshman forward Alexandra Ortenzo opened the scoring in the 68th minute, finishing a pass from sophomore midfielder Kaylee Gomez to give Golden West a 1-0 lead. Gomez then doubled the advantage in the 76th minute, converting on an assist from freshman Sarah Aguilar.
The Rustlers sealed the match in the 87th minute when freshman forward Amari Webb buried her first collegiate goal on an unassisted strike, securing the 3-0 result.
Golden West's defense was rock solid throughout the match, limiting LA Pierce to just two total shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Sierra Carter earned the shutout, making one save over 90 minutes of play.
The Rustlers outshot the Brahmas 8-2 and controlled the pace of play, showing both patience in the buildup and a dangerous attack when opportunities came.
Golden West is back on the road this Friday when they travel to College of the Desert for a 5pm kickoff.
