Huntington Beach, Calif. — The Golden West College women's soccer team remained unbeaten on the season after grinding out a 0-0 draw at home against Cerritos College Friday afternoon. The result moves Golden West to 4-0-1 overall, while Cerritos stands at 1-4-1.
The Rustlers defense was tested throughout the match as Cerritos pressed forward, but sophomore goalkeeper Sierra Carter was outstanding between the posts, recording nine saves to secure her fourth clean sheet to begin the year.
Golden West generated offensive chances of its own, outshooting Cerritos 6-2 in the first half and finishing with eight total shots. Defender Kiersten Mahan led the Rustlers with five attempts, while midfielders Jocelyn Heredia and Kaylee Gomez each added opportunities that forced Cerritos goalkeeper Paulina Prescott into action. Prescott finished the day with seven saves to keep the Falcons level.
The match was physical, with both sides showing grit in the midfield. Abby Quinlan picked up a yellow card in the first half for the Rustlers, while Cerritos' Jessica Arroyo was also booked. Despite the intensity, Golden West's back line, anchored by Jada Overton and Mia Guerra, held firm to post another shutout.
The Rustlers are back in action on the road on Tuesday, September 16 at Santa Monica College with a 1pm kickoff.
