Indio, Calif. — The Golden West College women's soccer team remained perfect to start the 2025 season, securing a 1-0 road victory at College of the Desert Friday evening at Shadow Hills High School. The win improves the Rustlers to 2-0 overall.
After a tightly contested first half, freshman forward Alexandra Ortenzo delivered the breakthrough in the 57th minute, scoring the game's only goal on an unassisted strike. It marked Ortenzo's second goal in as many games, as she also found the net in the Rustlers' season-opening win earlier this week.
Golden West controlled much of the play, outshooting the Roadrunners 10-3 overall and putting seven shots on frame. Sophomore midfielder Kaylee Gomez led the Rustlers with four shots, while freshman midfielder Jocelyn Heredia and freshman Rylee Schneider each tested the keeper with quality looks.
Defensively, the Rustlers posted their second consecutive shutout to start the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Sierra Carter needed just one save across 90 minutes to secure the clean sheet, with strong support from the back line led by Jada Overton and Kiersten Mahan.
The Rustlers are back on the road Tuesday at San Diego Mesa with a 12:30pm kickoff.
