Rustlers Sweep Fullerton to Stay Hot in OEC Play
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - The Golden West College women's volleyball team continued its strong run through the Orange Empire Conference on Wednesday night, cruising to a three-set sweep over visiting Fullerton College, 25-15, 25-12, 25-10, inside the GWC Gym. The Rustlers improved to 15-3 overall and 11-2 in OEC play, while the Hornets dropped to 4-15 (2-12 OEC).
Golden West dominated from start to finish, controlling the tempo on both sides of the ball. After a steady opening set, the Rustlers found another gear in the second and third, hitting an impressive .440 and .458, respectively, to put the match away in just over an hour.
Sophomore Jalissa Costa led the charge with 11 kills on a .333 hitting percentage and a match-high 10 service aces, finishing with 21 total points. Jenna Zaffino added 10 kills on .391 hitting with eight digs, while Lizbeth Espinoza contributed four kills on .571 efficiency. Setter Cassandra Zoellers distributed the offense with 21 assists and chipped in six service aces of her own, while Meghan Freck added three kills, 10 assists, and two aces.
As a team, Golden West hit .295 and registered 19 service aces on the night while holding Fullerton to just a .086 hitting percentage across three sets.
The Rustlers will travel to first place and undefeated Orange Coast College on Friday, November 7, first serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
